2023 Summer Inclusion & Equity Institute - Resources

Make this a practice throughout your school year!

At the beginning of each day, set your intention to support the immediate work ahead. Write the intention down and post it on the side of your computer screen, on your desk, or on your plan book. Each time you see the intention, ask yourself, “Am I embodying this intention?” If you notice that you have lost sight of your intention, take a moment to remember your intention and then begin again, re-engaging with your students with a sense of renewal, holding this intention.

This process of using intention as a focusing device or self-promise meter really works. It helps us achieve daily goals and practice critical reflection. Use this practice to establish am inclusive and equitable stance. An intention can help create emotional safety for our students and ourselves. By holding an intention, we remind ourselves of what is important as we teach our students to do the same.

Implicit Bias

Because we are human, we all have implicit biases. We encourage you to watch this Ted talk and take a number of the Harvard implicit bias quizzes.
