The Lesley Institute for Trauma Sensitivity [commonly known as LIfTS] is an initiative committed to raising educators’ awareness of the effects of trauma on student learning, behavior, and social-emotional well-being, and helping them implement strategies to ameliorate those effects. The LIfTS Research Team designs and studies inquiries around the development of trauma-sensitive learning environments.
NEERO 2025 Arts-Based Pilot Project
Research Associates from the LIfTS Fellowship Program participated in a research-in-progress Roundtable Discussion at the New England Educational Research Organization [NEERO] Conference in Portsmouth, NH on March 27, 2025. Their pilot research project, Educators’ Perceptions of Effective Practices for Student Emotional Regulation in the K-12 Classroom, seeks to understand teachers’ perceptions of practices they believe to be effective in facilitating student emotional regulation and to explore the use of arts-based approaches as a conduit for change. Members of this arts-based pilot project include Lesley doctoral students: Casey Smith, Lindsay Stewart, Kimberly Gower, Michele Shelton, & Belle Bocal (Research Associates) and Henry Bryant (LIfTS Fellow).
